Unconventional uses of Sack

Sack (known as "bori" in Urdu) is one of the most commonly used containers for multiple things, at least in Pakistan. It's commonly used for grains, coal, wood, metal utensils, etc. It can also be used to cover slippery floors and is also used in sack racing where a team of two people put their legs in it and run towards the finish line, a sport usually for kids. A sack full of sand is somewhat bullet proof, so it can be used in that way as well e.g at smaller posts.

But, there can be other unconventional ways to utilize it as well, some of which can be:

  • You can cut a sack into pieces and use instead of tissue papers in case you catch cold
  • You can make an umbrella out of it, which won’t last long though
  • Since there’s an increase of population of pick-pockets, you can create internal pockets out of a sack; at least it’s difficult to cut
  • A mobile pouch
  • A hat or a bed sheet or a rug, which can be useful in winters
  • Can be used for cleaning glass
  • Clothes for yourself or your pets or for a scare crow
  • You can punish your kid by keeping him into it for an hour or so, do make sure that there are enough holes to breathe though
  • Car cover, seat cover, or any other cover
  • One can try constructing a bridge all made with sacks

It’s upto your own imagination what other uses of a sack you come up with.

Do you really mean this?

"You can punish your kid by keeping him into it for an hour or so, do make sure that there are enough holes to breathe though"

Think of getting old, making mistakes due to your declining memory and intelligence, and your children putting you in a "bori" to punish you...of course, keeping some holes so that "burhay mian guzar hi na jayen."

I think I mean it :)

Punishment for kids are to make them realize what's good and what's bad, so that their future is improved. As far as old people are concerned, there's no future.

Though, I would certainly like to be a part of these sort of adventures, once I get old :)

Well, nobody can match your adventurous nature!

But on a seriuos note, a kid who can be "locked" in a sack would be between 5 and 10? This age is too tender for punishments. How about keeping a snake in a box and throwing it on your son when he misbehaves? Of course, just like holes in your sack, you can make sure that the snake has no fangs.

Kids are like empty slates; you do the "writing." If you really reach a limit where you have to punish them physically (or have to give some kind of metnal torture), it would already be too late. Showing annoyance is one thing, raising your voice while talking to them can be another level, slapping them could be the limit. Don't think of making them go through pain or agony (like your sack example).

Before the teen-age, kids love their parents more than anything else in this world. Teen-age is a natural phenomenon; it has to be handled even more delicately. Most probably, you cannot put a teenager in a sack. Even if you succeed, he/she would be even more voilent.

Mark my words - it's not a solution.

Very Insightful thoughts, but a totally unfit context. Anyways, a good discussion is always welcome :)

I would not agree fully on one point though and that is when you say "If you really reach a limit where you have to punish them it would already be too late". One is not perfect while raising the kids and sometimes there occurs a situation where you have to do that sort of a thing, doesn't matter whether it was your fault of not preventing it or it's your kid's fault that you are curing the situation. What do you do then? Solution is not generalized, it has to be specialized at certain times.

Mark my words as well, a punishment of 1 hour can do wonders and kids only realize at some later point in time.

Other disagreement is about the example of a snake, in logical terms it has the same impact, but your kid doesn't know that it has fangs or not or for that matter poisonous or not, he has a certain fear about it. The point is that you have to handle it pretty carefully and it can't be compared with the punishment of a sack or a dark room.

Anyways, my point of view is that if there's a situation where your kid needs a beating with a hunter, you should give him, where need means there's nothing else you can do.

But, I have strong faith that if one goes for preventing these situations altogether by very good care & polite/empathetic attitude, that's the best way to raise/handle any kid, infact to handle anyone may they be your teammates or your elders or friends.

Well, another unconventional use of sack can be..Pen is the tongue of mouth. Sometimes slip of the tongue creates big problems so you can use a sack on your tongue to avoid such situations.
You can also transfer weapons in a sack from one place to other, if you need it done secretly.
To become a stylish make a tie of it. One of the cheapest way these days
